I have had quite a few bad experiences at our local Wal-Mart. First of all that did not develop my grandmother's film right and then lost seven rolls of film. Second, my car stereo broke and they say they will repair it, but when I talked to the assitant manager he refuses to have it repaired. He gave me a copy of their return/exchange policy, evidently he has not read it because it says that Wal-Mart will repair it under their warranty program. The assitant manager was very rude to me and treated me like I was stupid. I called my mom and told her she called the manager and he hung up on her 5 times. I am a cashier, and I have had customers call and be upset but I don't get piss and hang up on them. That is very rude and not very American. Oh and to some of you that say cashiers are human to and that you get angry to, that does not mean you take it out on the customers, it is not their problem you are having a bad day. You do not get paid to have an attitude with the customers. You wouldn't like it if you were the customer and the cashier is having a bad day and takes it out on you and is very rude.

While once working at the wal mart in Wood River, I can see why this person says they got treated poorly...The Store Manager(Glenn Masterson) is the most stupid idiot on the face of the earth & makes the work enviroment very bad, he is the worst boss you'd ever want, He makes the employee very upset and sometimes they take it out on the customers, which I am not saying is right but we are all human...and those employees that were talked about in the column are just stupid too especially Peggy(she thinks she knows everything and she is a suck up).

I agree with a previous business associate of mine, Wal Mart is truly the anti-Christ of the retail world. It's a fact that they leverage their suppliers and take advantage of employees & consumers alike. To me the solution is a simple one. If you are unhappy working for Wal Mart, find a new job where you can be happy. If you are a dis-satisfied customer quit shopping there and spend your hard earned money somewhere else. That has the most impact, just don't support them. If you're a supplier don't put all of your eggs in their basket. I did this over 5 years ago with another chain (Rite-Aid) and just recently did the same thing to Wal Mart. They don't get what they ned the most, MY MONEY.

I would like to say that I work at the Wal-Mart Supercenter #213 in Litchfield, Illinois, and I don't think it is the BEST place in the world to work, but, I think, that customers should NOT judge all stores just by one they visit regularly. The cashiers (I'm a cashier) are very friendly and actually fast-paced. All workplaces have their problems, and ours has a lot of them, but we (most of us) are very courteous and upbeat. Most of us enjoy our job even with the sucky pay. If anyone ever has a bad experience in their Wal-Mart store, I would encourage you to visit our store (you may even see me, I'm on midnights.) Our general manager, Mike Treece, is a very nice person and he always listens when we have a problem and he isn't bad on the eyes either! Sometimes people need to understand that we have bad days too, we should NOT however, take it out on our customers. Because the customer can make or break your paycheck!

I worked at Wal-mart for 14 years. I was the perfect company person, I believed everything they said and loved the company. Boy, did I ever get a rude awakening. After 14 years, I quit with nothing to show for it but a measly little pittance of money in profit sharing and a few dollars in 401K. Folks, let me tell you, management will lie to you if they think it will benefit the company. They can tell you one thing to your face and cut your throat behind your back. That is not just one or two, either, it's all of them. You know those secret little meetings they have? They are discussing things we can't hear because they know we wouldn't put up with it. Managers have to be a certain 'type' of person or they will never make it. They have to be able to walk all over people and not let it get to them. They are users and have an uncanny ability to lie right to your face and make you believe it. Believe me when I say these things, I loved my job, I made great money, the benefits were good, to a degree, but the stress was just too high. If you work for Walmart or plan to in the future, don't get caught up in the company. Do your job, take everything they say with a grain of salt and pray hard every day that you don't become like them; robots. God bless you all.

I've always found that Wal-Mart treats me really well, and continues to offer low prices. When I lived in Ohio, we used to go to the SuperCenter for groceries and would save LOADS of money. Perhaps it's just that particular Wal-Mart that's giving the company a bad name. By the way, I also work for Wal-Mart logistics and I have to say they are a GREAT company to work for. I don't know what these other folks are talking about. Perhaps it was their management. If so, we have an Open Door Policy that allows you to bring up any problems you have with Management.. all the way up to the CEO. We also have a Grass Roots organization that allows employees to express complaints, comments, etc. And as far as pay goes -- I started off at $10.05/hr last year and am making $13.05/hour now, plus benefits. We also get discount cards, memberships to Sam's Club, free dinners -- all kinds of stuff. If that store was that bad, someone needs to call Bentonville and get on them -- as far as employees go, if you have problems with your managers, let someone know! They really do care, and we'll take action on unfair managers -- trust me!

I WORKED for Wal-Mart as well. I did not last, though. I was canned for doing my work assigned to me by my department manager instead of listening to a Support Manager not even assigned to my area. See, I do not fit the Wal-Mart mold for one reason. I do this moronic thing called THINKING, and I will not blindly follow orders by "Management." If I want to get paid next-to-nothing and not think about what I'm doing, I will enlist in the Army!!!!

You are wrong! Your Wal-mart store may have sucked but Wal-Mart is a great place to work for! I am a Wal-mart employee myself and I think Wal-Mart is a loving caring company. Their benefits are great (even part-time employees get benefits), the employees and mamagers are nice, and Wal-Mart has great low prices. Some Wal-Mart stores may have a few problems, but that is the way with all stores.

I worked at wal-mart for about 5 years. It was one of my worst work experiences of my life! You don't get paid bairly enough to survive, and their insurance is crap!! When I worked there I had the option of having better insurance, but I had to pay $65 a week for a single person. Even that insurance was not that great. The managers were horrible, they treated you like crap and the store manager Ray Gravel is one of the most sexist pigs I know.
I knew a person who worked there for about 4 years and had a learning disability and Ray treated him like he was stupid. There were sooooo many complaints about that manager and so many people quit because of him, but nothing was ever done about it.
There were so many times when they would cut certain employee's hours "to save money for the company" but would let certain employees work over time--the ass kissers and mostly they were men.
For all the customers who complain about wal-mart employee's, try being in their shoes. They get paid crap, deal with crap from bad managers, and deal with horrible customers on a regular basis. However, I do feel that wal-mart employee's should be do there job and be helpful. Not all customers are horrible- I've known alot of really nice and understanding customers--they see how the magement treats their employees. And believe it or not there are alot of good employee's that are friendly and helpful. Maybe some of you snotty customers need to knock your tone down abit!! You are no better then us, we are willing to work for what we need even if it is crap pay. Not all of us are lucky to land cushy jobs.

Wal Mart is a bad thing everyone should do all they can to support local businesses. They drive all the business out of town then slowly raise prices. Also as a former member of their management i was forced to make personell hire mostly women and teens that way the store could take hours from employees. Women working part time and teenagers rarely keep track of time. If employee noticed was to tell them computer error and give them the time.

I agree that Wal-Mart employees suck!!!!! Every time me,my husband,my mom, or my sister go into the Wal-Mart in Wood River we can't get anyone to help us. And when you find someone they get all snootey with you. I needed a price on something once, and the employee just snarled at me when I asked her if she could find a price for me. She acted like it was going to kill her to help me. How rude!!! I've had more than one terrible incident there. That's why I'm never going back there again. I shop at K-Mart instead. K-Mart in Alton is a friendly environment. They may not always have everything in stock all the time, but there employees are a lot nicer. It's hard to have everything in stock when that store is always busy. They have good quality items at affordable prices. That's why they sell out of stuff. Thanks

Even though I`m npt from your town, I`ve had some bad experiences with wal-mart. One time (2000 I think) I went to Wal*Mart to buy a phone card, it was 30 min. anyway, I tested it on THEIR payphones outside to see if they screwed me over, sure enough when I validated my card over the phone it said "Balance 0 Minutes". So, I went to returns and told the Cashier about it and she refused to refund my money, and she runs the card through her register and it said "Balance 0 Minutes" Then she said "Well, you have must have used up all the mins. outside." This was stupid of her, i bought the thing 10 Mins. ago, and the phone card was 30 Minutes!!! Finally after 45 Mins of aruging w/ her the manager gives me back the money.

Also, The cashiers are S--L--O--W.

Judging by your message, I am guessing that this isn't the only store that you have problems with. First of all, I think that you need to put yourself in the shoes of others sometimes and realize how you are behaving--then maybe you will understand. Second, some people just have bad days and other people get defensive when customers, such as you, are rude to them. Getting mad does not help matters.
If you have had so many problems with Wal-Mart, why are you continuously going back there? Are you just going in there with a bad attitude and hoping that someone will prove your opinion right? As for the child abuse comment, that is pretty immature for someone who has a child. Child abuse is a very important issue in which Wal-Mart has helped raise great amounts of money to support.
Please reconsider your bad attitude towards Wal-Mart and concentrate more on how you treat people instead of how they treat you. It's amazing what a smile can do.

You couldn't have been more right about the imfamous store #1071. Why do I know that..Because I worked there in 1989-1991. Peggy was there then and its not suprising that she is still as stupid today as she was 11 years ago!! The Management there is a joke! Always has and always will. Let me tell you a story about a guy who used to work there. I will change his name to protect him I'll call him Harry. You see Harry worked on the night crew and hurt his shoulder lifting a table in the snack bar. It did some damage to his shoulder and he needed surgery to repair the damage. The "Wal-Mart doctors said there was nothing wrong with his shoulder and he would be fine. Well to make the long story short...nerves were damaged and he ended up in a sling for the rest of his life. Pretty good for a $6.00 per hr. job huh? You might have seen Harry around the rear of the store and let me tell you he is a great guy! Too bad Wal-Mart screws more than just its customers! It's just too bad that the ones who excel there are the Peggy and the Shirley types.
When are they gonna put a Target in Wood RIver anyway?
