My Book Collection
Here are a few of my favorite books. It’s not a complete list, but I plan to keep adding to it as I discover new books or remember old ones that I really enjoyed. If you have any recommendations for me, please leave them in the comments section.
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein: Baby gets left behind on Mars, is raised by Martains and then gets taken back to Earth a couple decades later. Awesome story from the 60’s. Read this for the first time in 2010.
Mark Twain: A Life by Ron Powers: I picked up this book at the St. Louis airport in 2004 or 2005 for something to read on the plane to Oregon and back. At the time I knew very little of Mark Twain or his stories. I’d never read Huckleberry Finn or any of his other classics, as far as I can remember. This biography instantly turned me into a Mark Twain fan. Over the years since I’ve read this book I’ve tried to read everything of his that I can, both biographical and his stories. Ron Powers is still my favorite biography on Mark Twain.
The Mysterious Stranger by Mark Twain: Of all the Mark Twain that I’ve read, this is my favorite story of his. It’s kind of a weak ending, but from what I understand the book wasn’t finished when he died and someone else threw together the ending for him.
Night in the Lonesome October by Richard Laymon: I picked up this book by accident in 2008 and fittingly read it in October. I started it in the late morning and read it all day until I was finished with it. It was a hard book to put down and was a lot of fun to read. One of these days I plan to get around to reading other Richard Laymon books.
Safe Baby Handling Tips by David Sopp, Kelly Sopp: This is a hilarious book for new parents about how to safely raise your baby. It’s mostly told through pictures and gives you advice such as not hiring a bum off the street to watch your baby and not mount a TV in the baby’s crib to help it fall asleep. I can’t wait until I an opportunity to give this book to a new parent.
